The Deathly Hallows **Spoiler Free**
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007I am not much of a book reader. I lack the time & patience to sit in one place for an extended period of time doing one thing. I am far to frigidity for books. The problem is I really like books. I love the detail and imagry that books produce. I like being caught up in a story line. I just don’t enjoy sitting and reading. Thankfully the world has produced the beautiful invention of the audio book. I can enjoy great works of literature while I work outside, play video games, or run. I love audio books. To many academics, “readers”, and a certain female in my household, this is not something to be proud of or gloat about but frankly I don’t care. On the same hand being an adult I also should not love the Harry Potter series (Although the certain female does not have an issue with that character flaw as she has the same), again I don’t care. As I have said many times I am a dork. And part of being a dork is being a daydreamer. My daydreams have always drifted toward fantasy and science fiction. In other words my head is now and has always been in the clouds.
Now that we have that covered I can get to the point. I bought the final Potter book on CD last week. 23 hours to finish the series. Without ruining this book or any other I will only say that I was not disappointed by the end. Nowhere do I feel there was a cop out or a cheapening of the series. I felt it was a little slow in the middle but right around chapter 30 the book really hits you. Last night I stayed up way too late just sitting there listing to the final fates of the characters. Chapters 31-35 are a rollercoaster of emotions. For once the buildup seemed to pay off. Even the aspect of the story that were extremely obvious paid off when they finally happened. As I finished the last chapter and the epiloge this morning I was very satisfied. I look forward to my wife finishing the book so I finally have someone to discuss it with.
I really do hope this is the end of the Hogwarts books. Let the series stand alone for what it is. Any prequels or revisits would cheapen what has been accomplished.
Overall this was my favorite Potter book. 5 stars out of 5 and a very fitting end. It was the first one I felt was clearly written to the Adults (20-35 years old) that can relate to all the characters adult and child. I would recommend reading this with someone you enjoy talking to, because waiting for Michelle to finish it may drive me nuts!!
